Warm-Up 3

Warm-Up 3 is all about turning informal, spoken language into formal, written language. The prompt is the kind of thing a health-and-safety officer might say when she's on a site visit, but the written version of her recommendations will use different grammatical structures and different words … because it's written and formal, not spoken and informal.

Remember that you've only got FIVE sentences to produce - you don't need to write the entire report.

  2. Based on the Health and Safety Executive’s observations, following paragraph contains a list of remarks on the construction site at the Exhibition Centre in Kalmar and requires immediate changes to not become suspended.

Construction workers are not wearing the advised footwear, which by Swedish recommendations are shoes with reinforced soles and toe caps to prevent workers from injuries when operating on the site.

Workers who are not wearing hard hats or ear protection on the construction site are violating Swedish regulations and are strongly advised to obtain helmets with built-in ear protection immediately to not become banned from the site.

The lack of safety barriers and fences exposes an absence in safety-awareness which also is against Swedish regulations and has to be installed prior to all work above ground level due to the risk of injuries.

Vehicles utilized on the site possess expired test certificates and cannot be brought back to service until new test certifications have been obtained from the test station.

I feel obliged to inform you that in Sweden there is a series of construction regulations to be followed. Otherwise there will be serious consequences, and we will have no choice but close your company down.

First of all, the use of appropriate workwear is mandatory. Therefore, it is necessary the use of proper footwear with reinforced soles and toecaps, as well as approved safety helmets.

In addition, it would be advisable to provide the workers with some helmets with built-in ear muffs and mesh to cover the face

In order to prevent industrial accidents, safety barriers and fences must be set-up whenever construction is carried out at heights higher than ground level.

Finally, the certificates of three diggers and a dumper truck have expired. Since proper certification for all equipment is required, it is necessary to stop using them until an authorized mechanic and the test station has examined and approved them.

There are numbers of requirements your company has to follow in order to work in Sweden.
    1. Construction footware must be worn by all employees working on a construction area to protect feet against rolling or falling objects.
    2. Hard hat with ear-muff attachments must be facilitated to all employees working on-site protect against impact to center of the head and the ears.
    3. Physical barrier must be set up, and the perimeter fence must be adequate and be of a suitable height to deter entry.
    4. There are requirements of certain construction vehicles like diggers and dumper trucks need to be certified by safety testing station.

  9. In Sweden there are different kinds of work regulations compared to China. It is very important to follow these regulations otherwise your worksite will be closed down.

No one is allowed on to the worksite if they are not wearing the required equipment, which includes hardhat with built-in ear muffs and facecoverage as well as work boots with reinforced soles and toecap.

An inspection of the worksite revealed that three diggers and a dumper truck have invalid test certificates. You have no permission to use these vehicles until you have a renewal of these certificates.

  10. An inspector from the Swedish Health and Safety Executive visited our site in Kalmar a couple of days ago and there are some things that we need to improve to be allowed to continue our work safely.

To begin with we need to make it mandatory that every worker has to wear work boots, with reinforced soles and toecaps to protect the feet in case of any accident.

To avoid more potential accidents we have become conscious that it is very important that we oblige every person, workers as visitors, on site to wear approved safety helmets.

We also need to, without delay, take our diggers and the dumper truck to a test station nearby. Since we cannot use the diggers and the dumper truck without doing this check and therefore cannot continue our work it is very urgent that we do this immediately.

It is of greatest importance that workers, to protect their ears, wear approved ear-muffs whenever on the site.

Wearing hard-hats at construction sites are for safety reasons obligatory by Swedish law.

Vehicles utilized on the site must possess valid test certificates before being put back into service.

Safety barriers and fences are compulsory by Swedish law for all work above ground level.

Construction workers are not using proper foot wear, which by Swedish recommendations are shoes with reinforced soles and toe caps.

Due to cultural differences regarding working standards I hereby have to inform you that we will be forced to close down if regulations are not followed.

Due to Swedish safety regulations hard hats must wear at all times by everyone entering the work site area.

Nose is common on the work site. Recommendations are to provide ear protection, my suggestion is that you provide hard hats with ear protection and meshes included.

Regulations regarding fencing around the work site is strict. Even small accidents can result in tragedies. You must always make sure the fencing of proper hight is in place before work above ground level takes place.

The workers are wearing shoes less suited for construction work. The work tasks contains dangerous moments such as handling boards with nails and heavy lifting. We do not want any of the workers to hurt themselves while working. We recommend solid work shoes with reinforced soles and toecaps.

  13. A Report of Investigation by the Health and Safety Executive

    1. the Health and Safety Executive visited our construction site in Kalmar and they pointed out some lacks of our systems, then they strongly demanded the reformation.

    2. At first, we need the proper work boots with reinforced sole and toecaps in case the dangerous objects fall.

    3. Second, we all in the site need the approved safety helmets with ear muffs and meshes to cover the face, considering the noises of the construction.

    4. Also, there should be the fences and safety carriers of the proper height everywhere we start building above ground level.

    5. Finally, we are supposed to bring some of the plants whose test certification have not been valid to the test station immediately, also we have to have them checked by an authorized mechanic in case they have some leak in the hydraulic systems.

  14. If the conditions at the construction site do not meet Swedish standards concerning rules and regulations the site is in danger of being closed down.

In order to reach the required level of safety the workers must be provided with proper equipment, such as work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps.

Due to Swedish regulations hardhats are compulsory and must be worn at all times on the construction site.

When building above ground level fences and barriers have to be put in place in order to prevent falls.

Some of the plant that is being used should immediately be taken to a test station, as at least four of the vehicle’s certificates have expired, and to an authorised mechanic to make sure the plant is in viable condition.

    ReplyDelete
  15. According to Swedish health and safety regulations, all companies involved with construction and building work are required to comply with strict safety standards; failure to meet the requirements may result in closure of the site.

Firstly, protective work clothing is compulsory for all workers on the site and includes safety footwear such as work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps, as well as approved safety hardhats.

Secondly, to reduce the effects of noise exposure and prevent facial injury on the site, construction workers must be provided with ear and face protective equipment such as safety ear muffs and mesh visors.

In addition, construction sites must be secured by safety barriers and temporary fencing, including high-level barriers to ensure protection at levels above ground.

Valid test certificates of the plant are required, therefore, any expired certificates of compliance must be renewed and all construction vehicles put through routine maintenance checks by an authorized mechanic.

  18. Recently the Swedish Health and Safety Executive visited the Exhibition Centre in Kalmar to observe the working conditions at the construction site and we recieved the following remarks, which have to be resolved promptly:

The construction workers must wear proper footwear with reinforced soles and toecaps to avoid injuries.

According to Swedish regulations it is also mandatory for construction workers and other visitors to wear hard hats and ear protection at the construction site.

In order to avoid further accidents and injuries, fences and safety barriers need to be high enough everywhere so there is no risk falling down.

In addition, the certificates for three diggers and one dumper truck have run out and are not allowed to be used until they have been tested by an authorized mechanic and the certificates have been renewed.

  19. The following issues needs to be addressed if work is to be continued on our site in Kalmar, Sweden, according to Sweden's Work Environment Act. (WEA)

All construction site workers need to wear work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps.

Workers as well as visitors, are required to wear hard top hats at all time when on site.

As the Swedish WEA also regulates noise levels, it is recommended to obtain hard hats with built in ear muffs together with face mesh to also protect from work dust.

Any level above ground level requires protective fencing and barriers to avoid fall injuries and similar.

The heavy machinery such as trucks and diggers need to be certified and tested by a licensed Swedish mechanic to be allowed for use on site.

  20. We had a visit from the Swedish Health and Safety department and they made some observations on the construction site which needs to be addressed in order to avoid from being closed down.

We need to equip our workers with proper work shoes, these should be with reinforced soles and toecaps.

Safety helmets are compulsory, we should provide our workers with these and at the same time we can upgrade them with built-in ear muffs to prevent our workers from being exposed to the noisy environment.

We are currently operating vehicles which do not have valid certificates, we have to stop using these immediately until they have been tested and approved.

It is imperative that we use safety barriers and fences where we are operating above ground level.

  21. Irregardless what the Chines regulations states, when operating in Sweden, all corporations are obliged to follow the Swedish regulation.

If the corporation is not following the stated regulations and rules the Swedish Health and Safety Executive has the authority to prohibit the business from continued operation.

It is compulsory that all the persons that enter the building site have a safety helmet. This concerns both ordinary workers and visitors.

Even though the sound level in the building site is at a normal level it can harm a persons hearing therefore all the workers and visitors must be obliged to wear earing protections.

Due to the heavy lifts and the pointed objects in the building site the workers need to have work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps.

  22. A Health and Safety Inspection has revealed that we fail to meet some Swedish laws and regulations. Failure to abide by the following list will result in closure of our exhibition centre.

Proper boots with reinforced soles and toecaps is mandatory for all personnel at the site.

Safety helmets are compulsory at the construction site, for personnel and visitors.

Fences and barriers are required while constructing above ground level.

  23. To secure the area of construction it is very important to surround the area with proper fence and safety barriers so unauthorised persons do not access the area.

When accessing the construction area certain protective clothing are required. Proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps, hardhats and ear protection.

According to Swedish regulations, all vehicles must have a valid test certificate in order to operate at the construction site.

If any of these regulations are not followed, the Health and Safety Executive is entitled to close the construction site.

  24. The Swedish construction rules and regulations are not followed properly.

The building site is not safely built and is without fences above ground level.

Proper work equipment such as helmets and suitable working boots are not used by the employees.

Test certificates of diggers and dumper trucks are not up to date.

The trucks of the building site must be examined by authorized mechanics because of leaks in the hydraulic systems.

  25. In Sweden there are certain safety rules that every employer needs to follow.

Everyone who is working on the area must wear a helmet and proper footwear during working hours to improve safety and avoid injury.

To protect the employer’s ears, everyone should wear earprotection.

Security fence must be in all places where there may be a risk of injury or falling objects.

All tools and equipment must be tested for safety reasons.

  26. Requirements

According to The Health and Safety Inspector in Sweden, there are requirements to follow compulsorily on the building site.

First, wearing proper work boots, with reinforced soles and toecaps is essential.

Second, Constructors must wear a helmet or an approved safety helmet on the site. Even though the noise level is normal, a helmet with ear protectors and a mesh to cover the face is recommended.

Third, when Constructors start building above ground level, it is mandatory to use fences and safety barriers of proper height.

Last, certificates of three diggers and a dumper are expired. Therefore, it is compulsory to receive valid inspection by authorized mechanic.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Firstly, it is mandatory for all workers on the site to wear proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps instead of trainers that are used at the moment, to prevent possible injuries.

Secondly, according to Swedish health and safety regulations either workers or visitors are obliged to wear an approved safety helmet on the site.

Despite the fact that the noise level on the site is quite normal, it is recommended to provide construction workers with protective equipment such as safety helmets that have built-in ear muffs and a mesh.

Finally, your diggers and dumper truck’s test certificates are expired so in order to not be suspended from using them it is urgent to obtain new test certificates as soon as possible.

Due to Swedish health and safety regulations, if the recommendations that are mentioned in the report are not fulfilled, we will have no other alternative but to close the construction site down.

  28. In accordance with the Swedish HSE (Health and Safety Executive) regulations, we must carry out some reforms about our ability to control work risks.
We have a duty to take care of the work environment on our worksites; all of our employees are required to wear safety footwear, protective helmets, and hearing protection aids.
Moreover, the HSE inspectors have been very specific in highlighting the lack of safety fences and proper height barriers on the construction site, our workers face the risk of falling and injuring themselves and the Swedish labor laws are very strict concerning these matters.
One of the main problems in inhibiting our works progression is that four of our vehicles possess an expired test certificate, thus they cannot be used until they have been tested once again.
To conclude, I would emphasize on the necessity to conduct these reforms as soon as possible in order to meet the Swedish legal requirements.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Everyone who enters the building site, whether they are workers or non workers must wear an approved safety helmet, preferably those types of helmet with built-in ear muffs and a mesh for full face protection.

To wear proper work boots is regulated by Swedish law and due to the safety risks at the site our workers are required to follow that law.

We need to look into and inspect our fences and safety barriers on-site and possibly add a few more, if needed. Since we are conducting construction work above ground level it is of great importance that our fences are of the right height.

We need to renew the certificates on three of our excavators and one dumper truck since their certificates are invalid. We are not allowed to put them back in service again until they have cleared the test and have passed a thorough check-up by an authorized mechanic.

It is strongly advised that we follow the Swedish regulations and therefore it is imperative for us to make all the necessary changes, otherwise it can lead to legal consequences resulting in a delay or even worse, a shut-down of the building site.

  31. Due to Swedish regulations our tools and equipment are unfortunately considered not adequate which must be initiated in order for the construction to proceed.

Firstly, regarding the builders safety, we are required accurate clothes and shoes in order to the reduce accidents, as well as proper ear protectors and hardhats. Secondly we need to secure the environment with fence in order to reduce accidents for the construction workers as well as non authorized people entering the construction site. Thirdly, our vehicles must be professionally tested since the service certificate has expired.

Meantime, while waiting for equipment and tools to be tested safe we will coordinate a meeting with all the builders in order to clarify Swedish rules and regulations on construction sites.

  32. Due to sharp items such as boards with nails and heavy lifting of different materials, the Health and Safety executive recommends the workers to wear proper work boots with reinforced soles and a protective cover for the toes.

Furthermore, it is compulsory for the workers to wear protective helmets, otherwise the workers are not allowed at the building site.

Due to the noise level at the building site, the workers are recommended to wear helmets with built-in ear muffs as well as a mask covering the face.

According to the Health and Safety executive, there are strict rules regarding fences and safety barriers. If buildings are constructed above ground level, fences and safety barriers with a proper height are required to be installed.

The certificates for some of the used equipment have expired and cannot be utilised until tested, additionally an inspection by an authorized mechanic is necessary.
